The Failure Assessment: How to overcome self-limitations?

The Failure Assessment: how to overcome self-limitation

What would you think if I told you that everything you think you cannot achieve today is within your reach?

Stay with me for a few minutes and you will see what I mean. I promise you it will be worth it.

To start, let’s do a quick exercise: think of something you think you can’t do/achieve and be honest with yourself:

What is something that you think you cannot achieve or what is something that you do not feel capable of doing?

Maybe you think you’re not good at sales, that you can’t get promoted, that you’re not attractive enough, that you can’t make a public presentation, or that you can’t be sociable, charismatic, or consistent.

You already have it?

Well, it’s not new that this belief about what you think you can’t do prevents you from advancing in your personal and professional life… and I’m not willing to allow this to continue happening.

This is what I want for you

So, what we are going to do right now is destroy these limiting beliefs that are currently frustrating your progress.

You see, if you are here reading these lines, it is because you are interested in improving your life and in some way, you believe that I can help you.

This, coupled with the high expectations I have for your life, makes it impossible for me to allow past experiences, personal fears, imposed beliefs, or any other barriers to prevent you from achieving the progress you deserve in life.

How to overcome your limitations?

For that reason, today I want to teach you a new technique so that you can overcome these barriers and achieve what you really want in your life, even if today you think it is not possible.

And I am not referring to “create abundance”, “achieve financial freedom”, “awaken your full potential” or any other meaningless promise that we see today flooding social networks, talks, or conferences.

I mean real goals, personal desires, specific goals that we really want to achieve:

  • Get a promotion
  • change industry
  • Start your own business
  • Increase sales
  • Build your personal brands
  • Start creating video content
  • Going out with a guy we’re attracted to
  • Make a presentation in public
  • Being the leader of a team
  • Etc.

Aren’t these some of our true goals? Objectives that we have put aside or continue to postpone…

So, the question is how can we manage to overcome our own limitations and fears to finally achieve today what seems to be “not for us” or that “maybe later” we will try?

I want to give you the answer through a technique that involves a new way of perceiving our limitations and a new – and effective – way of overcoming it.

Introducing… “ The Failure Assessment”

The Failure Assessment is about testing your limitations.

That is, instead of thinking or talking about what you think you can’t do, try it. Prove to yourself that you can’t do it.

…because if you’re going to limit yourself by believing that you can’t achieve something it had better be really true, right?

Don’t you think something is possible? Do it and prove to me that you can’t do it. Don’t say you’re bad at something, prove it.

In other words, take full responsibility for your beliefs, and instead of taking them for granted, put them to the test.

Stop living under the shadow of the belief that you can’t do something, don’t hide in your thoughts, in your excuses or limitations, and go “out into the field”. There where success and failure coexist and demonstrate with facts that you really can’t do it.

That’s where you can grow and make your biggest dreams come true. The ones that most people talk about, comment on, post or promise but don’t dare pursue.

Let’s see some of them

To go deeper into this concept and give you some of the practical applications of this technique, I want us to review some examples:

“I’m not good at sales”

Do you think you are not good at sales?
Make a list of 60 people, set aside two hours on Thursday and two hours on Friday, and call 30 people each day.

Tell them that you would like to see them, tell them your intention, explain why you are calling them and then invite them for coffee or lunch.

You will have at least five meetings from which you will close a sale and voila, you have it. You have earned a new profession, a new way to add value to the world, a new way to improve your life.

“I don’t think they will raise my salary”

Do you think your boss won’t give you a raise? Test it.

When you see him in a good mood or just after he compliments you on something say:

“I would like to talk to you, would you mind if I stop by your office at 4 pm, or would you prefer it to be tomorrow at 10 am?”

Then go tell him you’re committed to the company and show him the results you’re getting.

Explain that you would not like to quit, but it is important for you to be able to generate more income to cover your costs of living.

Tell him something you would like to buy/have/learn and let him know how this increase will benefit the company.

Remember, talk about what your boss wants and what your company needs.

“I don’t know how to speak in public”

Think you can’t speak in public? Test it.

The next time someone asks who wants to present at the meeting, raise your hand and say ME.

Then, feel how fear fills every part of your being and smile: it is an indicator that you are about to grow.

Commit to being the one to lead the meeting and ask yourself:

What is the purpose of this meeting? What are the participants looking for? How can I help you achieve it? What is it that you should know that you don’t know yet that I can tell you?

Write your answers and say them, you will make the best presentation of your life and they will thank you.

If you tremble, it doesn’t matter. Tell them that you’re shaking because you’re not used to it, they’ll excuse you but you didn’t want to let fear stop you from sharing that information with them.

They will respect you and you will be an inspiration to them.

“I don’t think he (she) listens to me”

Do you think that girl (or) would never go out with you? Test it.

The next time you see him, look him in the eye, smile, and say “hello”.

Then, end the conversation by saying “how interesting it is to talk to you, what are you going to do tomorrow after work? I would like to see you again”

If he is free, suggest going to dinner, the theater, the movies, or any other activity. If she is not free tell her that you would really like to see her (or) again and ask her what day would be best for her / her and what time.

Give him some options, keep quiet and wait for his response.

Now is your turn…

Now is the time to test your own limitations. For that, take two minutes now and answer these two questions in your mind:

  1. What is it that for weeks, months or years you have believed that you cannot do/achieve/have?
  2. What activities should you do to prove to yourself that you really can’t do it/achieve it/have it?

Now write your answers on a piece of paper, in a note on your laptop, or in the comments below, and define a time of the week when you will do the activities necessary to test your belief that you cannot do it.

Commit to doing this now and watch the barriers that used to limit you melt away one by one, activity by activity, achievement by achievement.

And thus, you will be one of the few who are not willing to live tied by unfounded excuses but take control of their own existence …and they dare to draw their own path even when they have to test the limiting beliefs that they have maintained for weeks, months or years.

To tell the truth, my dear friend, that is what this world needs most and that is what you need most in your life.
